sunset horizons slipping into morning
three names of friends I don't have anymore
won't have again
please give them back

whati?neversaid

nothing completely disappears,
but you might as well
just let your spirit descend to sleep
I arise
you submerge
I am whole
you are swallowed
meticulously absent form is moving
undermine underyours
come back, my shadow
you're the part I miss the most

whatinever?said

the world is a hologram
and even most intruders outside its physics
can be played and paused
a license to destroy everything that was left incomplete
by darkness or by despair
rising raw out of dream logic
everything converges and now we will be different

It wasn't you, but you still did it

The "Secret Room" poems are my reflections on themes, characters, and ideas in the Kingdom Hearts videogame series, a series very close to my heart (no pun intended.) Specifically, this series focuses on "Kingdom Hearts II" and "Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories."

Among other things, these are some thoughts from the character Roxas’ point of view, as he realizes who he really is and begins to share himself with Sora again, and how Sora seems to be reacting to it. Sora is responsible for Roxas’ existence and destruction, after all, and I wanted to really convey the trauma and confusion of Roxas realizing he isn't "real."

I think I ultimately want to take the Secret Room series more away from the beginning of Kingdom Hearts II or the end of Chain of Memories, but so many new concepts are explored and it really feels like a "birth" event, and everything after that is a result of it, born out of dream logic- things that shouldn't or couldn't otherwise happen.

I guess I don't know THAT much about the life Roxas lives with Axel and Maryx Suxe (excuse me, excuse me- Xion) because I've only read summaries of 358/2 Days, but he seems extremely human in Twilight Town with his human friends, and THAT is the tragedy of it. None of it's real, but he still feels connected to it, even though he has no heart.

I don't know if I like how this one turned out. It just didn't want to be any longer, though I wanted it to? Anyway, I hope the experimental structure worked out ok, because I thought it was fun. ^^;

This is one of the sad things I try not to think about...how he left behind the people he'd been conditioned to think were his three best friends. I'd say they were his three best friends, but since they were holograms, if the real Roxas ever went to the real Twilight Town, HPO would be all like "who?"

I'm known for getting emo over all the Nobodies, but this is actually a moment I literally BLOCK FROM MY MIND due to how strangely tragic this "happy ending" was for him.

As a poem as a whole, it's a really nice portrayal of hitting rock bottom with loss...where even your shadow is something you don't wanna lose.
Funny thing...I was listening to "Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd while reading this, and it really fits. ;-)
